If this is your only device:

Follow regular configuration process and sign in as usual.  Be sure to save your Master Recovery Key when you first sign on and store it somewhere secure.


If you are adding another device WITHIN a secure area and already have another device that has Wickr on it, but most likely cannot be taken into the secure area:

Go through the basic configuration process by downloading the configuration file and signing into your Wickr Account.  Now follow one of the two methods below.


Method 1:  Using your Master Recovery Key which you saved previously (Recommended)

Note: Adding via MRK does not transfer history.  You will still be apart of the rooms but the history will not transfer.

After going through the initial configuration steps and signing in, when prompted for the QR code to be scanned select:  I Don't Have Another Device


Now enter in the full MRK letters and numbers in.

When prompted for the QR code to be scanned select:  I Don't Have Another Device



Now paste or type your Master Recovery Code and click Recover.



There are no O's in MRKs (Master Recovery Keys) only Zeros (0).

Once put in it should add the device to your group of devices on your Wickr Account.  


Method 2: Use the pairing QR code steps laid out below

When the device prompts you with a QR code to be scanned by another device on your account either:

  • Print the QR code out from that computer and now take it outside to a device that DOES have the camera
  • Email the QR code to an address that is reachable outside of the secure area


Once that QR code is somewhere accessible outside of the secured area take your device that is allowed outside the area and launch Wickr.  It will prompt saying you are trying to add another device.  Click approve and scan the QR code you printed out or have from that device inside.  That should complete the addition and your device within the secured area should now be a part of your Wickr account!


Note:  If you go back to your device in the secure area and it hasn't fully logged into Wickr after the scanning.  Try hitting the "Resend Notification" option and do it again from your device outside.  Also exiting out and launching again can help too.


If you have previously tried to add the device, it would be good to go onto another working device and go to Settings > Device Management and remove (click the x) by the device you are having trouble adding.  Just so you can start with a clean slate when adding the device in the secure area.
