Wickr Enterprise Client Custom Thin-Client Install

This is supplementary documentation outlining installation instructions for installing Wickr Enterprise Client (Windows) to operate in more flexible configuration where application data may be stored in alternative custom location rather than the user’s standard OS “AppData” directory.

New Command-line Option (explanation)

The client provides a new command-line option (-datalocation) which allows user to configure where application data directory will be created on system.

Syntax: -datalocation <full path where application data directory will be created>

Note: The application data base directory “Wickr, LLC” will automatically be created by client.

Example: -datalocation E:

This will tell client to create application data directory at E:\Wickr, LLC

Supported Application Data Locations

The application data location may be any valid writable path. As such, a side from the obvious, this includes paths to:

- detachable storage (i.e. thumb drives)

- network share/drive

- synced folders

It should be assumed the client application will expect access to configured location and will display access error otherwise.

Windows Installation

For convenience, the Windows Enterprise Client installation will allow the user to specify a custom application directory during the initial installation process. The installation will configure application shortcut accordingly. Detailed below is a short guide outlining the steps required to specify a custom application data directory location.

After selecting normal installation options, you will be presented with a screen to select the Application Data Location. You have the choice to use the default Windows OS directory location or specify a “Custom location”. Select “Custom location”.

On selecting to specify a custom application data location, you will be presented with a file dialog to choose your location. You may also manually enter the path to network drives or detached storage (i.e. thumb drive).

On selecting or entering your desired application data location, you will be presented with screen to confirm your selection.

After confirming your application data location, the installation will continue in standard fashion. An application shortcut will be created which uses the “-datalocation” option to configure location to create/retrieve application data.

Please note, you can adjust the shortcut accordingly if the application data location is moved or changes.

Also, please remember if you execute the client from the command-line the “-datalocation” option must be specified to access your application data or the client will create an empty configuration directory in the default OS directory.
